The Season of Spring Greening

Spring is on its way!

The season of Spring Greening is upon us! For me this is the joyful transition season from winter to the full bloom of Spring when bits of green start to emerge from the soil through the brown leaves and twigs leftover from the last season. The earth Is  renewing and starting over again and it feels so good. Some years, Spring Greening starts as early as February.  it depends on the weather! This year, in my landscape, the greening has been slow and drawn out because of the mostly cool days and cold nights. That’s ok. It does not matter when the magic starts. Nature’s timing is always perfect. Every day there is a new sprout or budding leaf to look forward too. In the last week, the Virginia bluebells have arrived, the prairie smoke is forming flower buds, the pussy toe leaves are turning from white to pale green, the wild columbine leaves are abundant and the wild bergamot has emerged. The stem of the Illinois rose is green with pink plump buds and the pussy willow tree is in bloom. I have not seen the mourning cloak butterfly yet, but it is certainly around when the pussy willow blooms. Real Spring is just around the corner and there is so much more to look forward too!
